Safety

Safety is Important to Us - Merger Contracting is committed to Occupational Health and Safety and working continuously to develop systems that will improve safety on all job sites, in our depot and out on the road.

Our commitment is to have safety personnel and the required number of First Aiders working with every asphalt crew. Certain members of staff are trained in traffic control, and our "designated truck spotters" undergo training for safe tipping of asphalt trucks. All our mobile plant operators have verification of competencies (VOCs) from national recognised training providers.

Training is key to Merger providing superior quality workmanship and it’s an important part of our commitment to safety. All Crew members are subject to Competency Testing both internally and externally through accredited organisations and clients such as Boral and Fulton Hogan. Our Training programs have been developed to enhance the "on-the-job" experience and are constantly reviewed to determine if areas need extra and specialist attention. This training is carried out by competent, experienced supervisors and is tied to the completion of Safe Work Procedures.

We conduct monthly safety checks on-site safety checks and our Safety Officer is on site most days ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation. Safety Audits are conducted bi-annually, using tools developed with the assistance of external safety personnel who are leaders in their field. Our Transport Department is audited by Main Roads annually, ensuring the sustainability of our accreditation.

We take work place safety very seriously and our staff are subject to drug and alcohol testing on a regular basis. In addition to this analysis Merger employees are also included in screening carried out by our clients.

Safety Meetings occur monthly and involve ALL Merger employees. These meeting are a time to address issues of concern which may include any on-going issues, incidents, near misses or other work place matters. Our Safety Officer attends Client’s safety meetings and brings relevant information to the attention of Merger staff. These meetings are also a place where employees can make suggestions or present ideas that will further Mergers commitment to safety in the workplace.

What our Clients Say

As a civil contractor in Perth, DM Contracting constructs a wide range of commercial carparks, subdivision roadways and larger residential driveways. We have been using Merger Contracting for all our asphalt works for quite a number of years now and find the price, workmanship and communication from management and the guys to be first rate. They treat our smallest repairs with the same attention as we would expect for our largest commercial jobs, which as a contractor is all you ask for. And I know I can talk to the guys on the ground and get the answers and results we need. I have no hesitation in recommending Merger Contracting for any size of project and will continue to utilise their services on all our future contracts.
